Original Poem: All Through The Night

All Through The Night
By A.Z. Foreman

Sleep tonight and peace attend you
All through the night
Just this once let faith defend you
All through the night
Trees atop the hill are shaken
And the shadowed valley taken
But the spirit will not waken
All through the night

Fitful with the wind the water
All through the night
Flays the shore it calls a daughter
All through the night
Babies on the trees are rocking
Boughs are breaking clocks are talking
Buy me lies that time is hawking
All through the night

Starlight feeds the gazer's fever
All through the night
Though the star lie snuffed forever
All through the night.
In the wall time melts the mortar
Rebels gather at the border
Sleep and let us dream back order
All through the night

Stay asleep at last defend us
All through the night
From the rules that bind and bend us
All through the night
From the demon from the martyr
From the souls our bodies barter
Sleep my love now freed from ardor
All day and night
