Here lies the white dog from Malta, alone.
Loyal guard of Eumelus' house, in life
They called him Bullyboy. Now lost and gone
His bark is silenced on the roads of night.

τῇδε τὸν ἐκ Μελίτης ἀργὸν κύνα φησὶν hὁ πέτρος
ἴσχειν, Εὐμήλου πιστότατον φύλακα.
ταῦρόν μιν καλέεσκον, hὅτ᾽ ἦν ἔτι: νῦν δὲ τὸ κείνου
φθέγμα σιωπηραὶ νυκτὸς ἔχουσιν hὁδοί.
