Once a blue city
Dreamt of foreigners
Milling around
And shopping every night and day..

There's a dark city
That hates foreigners
Making their rounds
With gunsights scanning each café..

قصّةُ مدينة 
سميح القاسم

 كانت هناك  مدينةٌ زرقاء
تحلُمُ بالأجانب
يتسكعون وينفِقون
من الصباح ..الى الصباح..

صارت هناك مدينةٌ سوداء
تحتقِرُ الأجانب
الدائرين على مقاهيها
بفوهاتِ السلاح..
